Sailing Distance From Beef Island to Bvi Yacht Charters Base

Join us as we take you on a journey to one of the Caribbean's most celebrated cruising destinations, the British Virgin Islands.

Breathtakingly beautiful beaches, superb snorkel hideaways, lush green mountains and friendly anchorages, are just some of the reasons why this is a must-visit destination. Experience the beauty of a paradise archipelago made up of over 60 islands - it's no wonder these islands are called "Nature's little secrets". But let's keep that between ourselves!

Whether you decide to take the helm, or sit back, relax and enjoy the views on a Flagship Class catamaran, you won't be disappointed with what the British Virgin Islands has to offer.

Tortola is just over two hours from Miami and three and a half hours from New York, so island paradise is just a short flight away. A truly once-in-a-lifetime TradeWinds experience, be sure that you don't miss out. Book your perfect escape on one of our luxury BVI yacht charters.

This destination offers AQ U A experiences. Read on to find out more.

Sail The British Virgin Islands

Define perfection. Perhaps you envisage a paradise island with miles of picture perfect white, sandy beaches? Or incredible turquoise waters and atolls ideal for sailing, snorkeling and swimming? What about an adventure that combines both natural beauty and exhilarating experiences? Or maybe your idea of perfection is unwinding in a secret, secluded little corner of the world? Well, in our opinion, the British Virgin Islands is the very definition of perfection!

From the moment you step off the plane and onto the island, your tropical paradise awaits. Boasting an incredible year-round climate, every day in the BVIs reveals new and exciting opportunities.

Experience first class sailing as your captain and crew takes you on an unforgettable cruise around the islands, stopping off at some of our favourite secret locations. You'll encounter numerous islands and cays, where you can explore by foot, by kayak or by snorkel! The protected waters in this area make it a perfect haven for water-sports lovers. One hidden treasure that needs to be experienced is the invigorating, world famous geological wonder - a natural jacuzzi called the "Bubbly Pool"!

On shore, the tropical island paradise ventures inland with picture perfect villages, with fabulous restaurants and boutiques. Discover brightly colored villas that are framed with exotic flowers, and relax with a cocktail in hand as steel drums feature as your own personal island soundtrack.

Relaxing isn't the only pastime, as the BVIs offer fantastic panoramic views across the islands from vantage points that require a little exertion. However, with lush, tropical surroundings, it shouldn't be very hard to explore the islands and all they have to offer.

The BVIs are home to the famous Caribbean hospitality you come to expect and you'll soon get into the spirit of island life, or should that be "trying out the island spirit" with a taster of the infamous and locally produced Pusser's Rum!

Once you arrive in Tortola, you'll find us at Nanny Cay Marina, which is approximately 25-minutes from the airport. Here you'll meet your crew, ready to start your own BVIs adventure.

Book yourself a room with a view on one of our luxury, all-inclusive British Virgin Islands yacht charters and let us share what this Caribbean paradise has to offer. Your incredible dream vacation starts here.

Our British Virgin Islands yacht charter crew is looking forward to welcoming you aboard soon.

Activities

Scuba Divers wishing to dive during Covid-19 restrictions

PLEASE NOTE - Guests wanting to dive can rent their regulators from Blue Water Divers if they don't want to buy and bring it. They can also buy masks and snorkels from them. Email: bwdbvi@surfbvi.com or phone +1-284494-2847 a few days in advance to reserve regulators for rent.

Fishing

Please note:  due to extreme over-fishing in BVI waters, the government of the BVI has amended legislation regarding fishing in the territory from 1 April 2016. Only BVI registered fishing vessels are allowed to fish in the BVI waters. In the interest of conservation and in order to protect our susceptible marine life, fishing are not offered on TradeWinds boats in the BVI. This has been the case since 1 April 2017. We know that some of you will be disappointed, but we hope that you understand that we feel it's imperative that action is swiftly taken to conserve our threatened marine environments.

Swimming and snorkeling

Swimming and snorkeling are available every day, as well as beach-combing and some moderate hiking opportunities.

Scuba Diving

If you are a scuba diver, you may want to bring a thin wetsuit in the months between November to March. We have many guests who don't need one all year around, but you may find it more comfortable to wear one throughout that period. Water temperature in January is 79F/26C and in July 85F/29C.

At most dive sites in BVI certified divers may dive from the boat with one of our Divemasters, and those dives are complimentary for most TradeWinds members. There may however be some sites for which a fee is payable, and in these instances the divers themselves will be liable to pay any fees.

Other activities

Water sports including Skurfing, SUPing and Kayaking.

Itinerary

PLEASE NOTE

In the event of ANY named storm - all guests sailing with us during hurricane season (1 June to 30 Nov) will be expected to disembark our yachts for the duration of the storm.

Itinerary

Here is sample itinerary of what you may expect while enjoying a sailing vacation with TradeWinds. Weather or other outside factors may mean that your Captain sets an alternative course. In the event of a private booking, (you have booked all the cabins on the yacht) the decision on whether to include Anegada is made on a weekly basis, to allow for weather and sea conditions.

Arrival Day - Saturday

Check-in is from 13:00 (1:00 pm) until 16:00 (4:00 pm) at Nanny Cay Marina, with embarkation at 17:00 (5:00 pm). You will be greeted by our base-managers, who will take you through the embarkation procedure. We kindly urge guests to arrive before16:00 (4:00 pm) in order to check in and board at 17:00 (5:00 pm). This will help us to be able to cast off our lines and set sail into the sunset.

While waiting to board you after check-in and dropping of your luggage at our office, you can relax by one of the restaurants / bars or at the pool or beach in the Nanny Cay Resort and Marina.

Once you board your yacht you will be introduced to your crew and fellow sailors. After a refreshing welcome cocktail on-board, you will be shown to your cabin and helped to settle in. Providing all guests have arrived timely we will be setting sail across the Francis Drake Chanel, with the sun setting over the Virgin Island. Here a delicious three course dinner will be served on-board before we retire for the night.

Cruising Day 1 - Sunday

After a scrumptious breakfast, you can enjoy your first amazing snorkelling or scuba diving experience. Later this morning we then set sail for Cooper Island. You are very welcome to try your hand at sailing the yacht, and helping with the sails, but - if that's not your style - just lie back and relax and enjoy the sail, the choice is yours! Following a delicious lunch, we explore Manchioneel Bay, where you can snorkel, kayak or spend some time ashore at the renowned Cooper Island Beach Club. This is not only one of the BVIs most beautiful beaches, the Cooper Island Beach Club also hosts one of the Caribbean's most exclusive rum bars, with more than 100 different rums in stock. Later in the afternoon, we raise the sails again and head up the Sir Francis Drake Channel to the paradise island of Virgin Gorda. We anchor in Trunk Bay and enjoy Captain's Cocktails while the sun sets over the islands, before dinner under the stars.

Cruising Day 2 - Monday

After breakfast, we take a short trip by dinghy to The Baths - the most renowned, natural feature in the BVI. The Baths are a collection of giant boulders which form spectacular pools and grottos. The huge boulders and rocks form a maze that leads to Devil's Bay Beach. Here you can enjoy an ice cold beverage of your choice, in what is truly one of the world's great natural wonders. Your crew will swim your drinks ashore for you in a flowing cooler.

Later, we sail to North Sound, the BVIs favourite playground of the super-rich and home to Richard Branson`s private islands Necker and Moskito (maned after the local tribe, not the insect) Islands and Larry Page`s Eustatia Island. The protected waters here lend themselves to every possible water sport - including tubing, paddle boarding and kayaking. Perhaps, some of you sailors may feel like playing volleyball on the beach? After all this activity, well deserved sundowners are created by your captain, followed by another delicious dinner on-board. Lie back and relax under a beautiful star-filled sky, while listening to the sounds of the waves lapping against the shore at Vixen Point.

Cruising Day 3 – Tuesday

Following breakfast, we enjoy a leisurely, downwind sail to Marina Cay, one of the most spectacular cays in this region. We can snorkel on Diamond Reef if the weather allows; this is a favourite for large schools of small fish and the vibrant colours of the soft coral on this reef. We then hoist the sales and sails and sail on the beautiful (and aptly named) White Bay on the privately owned Guana Island. Here we will have time to explore the powdery white beaches or snorkel Monkey Point before sitting down to a tropical feast for lunch. After lunch we set sail for Cane Garden Bay where we will enjoy cocktails before we go ashore for dinner at one of the many beach-front restaurants.

Cruising Day 4 – Wednesday

Before breakfast we set sail to Jost Van Dyke and anchor in arguably one of the most beautiful bays in all of the Caribbean. We do this to ensure that we get the best anchorage right in front of the world famous Soggy Dollar Bar, home of the famous cocktail, the Painkiller. After a scrumptious breakfast on-board, you can swim ashore and buy your painkiller with your "soggy dollars", the wet money from swimming ashore, hence the name Soggy Dollar Bar. After lunch, the day charter boats arrive and the beautiful bay gets very crowded. This is our "Q" to set sail for the island of Little Jost Van Dyke and the picturesque Diamond Cay. Step ashore and check out the boutique at "Foxy's Taboo", before frolicking in the world-famous geological wonder called the "Bubbly Pool." This is like a natural jacuzzi and can be quite invigorating when the tide is in!

Enjoy dinner on board this evening. The light pollution from the islands is virtually non-existent at this anchorage, so you may want to finish off a truly fantastic day, with a nightcap on deck - and some amazing stargazing, with your fellow guests and crew.

Cruising Day 5 – Thursday

While you are still asleep in your cabin, your Captain will set off for either Sandy Spit, or Sandy Cay, so that you can put the "first footsteps in the sand". Use the time after breakfast to swim, snorkel, or take the kayak ashore for some more exploring. A beautiful sail through Thatch Island Cut leads us to the original Dutch settlement of Soper's Hole. Once ashore, you can visit some of the best shops and boutiques on the island - and have the opportunity to purchase the infamous Pusser's Rum! After lunch on-board we sail to Privateer Bay on Norman Island where we have the opportunity to snorkel in three water-level caves, at the base of the cliffs. The caves push deeply into the cliffs so that the darkness makes the experience like a night snorkel. There is a documented history of pirates' treasure having been stowed in these caves - so keep your eyes peeled! Privateer Bay is a sheltered bay which provides an idyllic overnight anchorage. You may wish to pay a visit to the infamous "Willy T" - the William Thornton Floating Bar. Your captain will happily take you there with the dinghy, or you may choose to rather snorkel another famous snorkel spot of the BVI, The Caves at Treasure Point. Afterwards, you can relax with your favourite cocktail and enjoy another great dinner on-board.

Cruising Day 6 – Friday

An early move to the west side of Norman Island, just a stone's throw from Norman Island and beside Pelican Island, is a wonderful place named "The Indians". From a distance, these four tall rock formations look somewhat like an Indian headdress - hence their name! After breakfast there will be ample time to snorkel and scuba dive here, in one of the BVIs most popular snorkel spots. A sail up the Sir Francis Drake Channel brings us to the best kept secret in the Virgin Islands, Little Harbour on Peter Island. This is also known as "unemployment bay", after all the privately owned yacht-crew that anchor here when their owners are not on-board! Here we can snorkel with turtles and enjoy the true tranquillity while anchored "stern to" the rock formations and land. After lunch we set sail for our home base in Tortola - just in time for those powerful sundowners! A quick change, and we're ready to go ashore to a nearby restaurant for our last dinner on this trip.

Departure Day – Saturday

After a last tasty breakfast on-board, it is time to gather your belongings, as well as your wonderful memories of a week in this most beautiful environment. Before exchanging fond farewells, your crew will arrange transport to the airport. Already you will be planning your next cruise with TradeWinds.
